Tranquility behind a lawn mower

As I write this, it is a Sunday morning in the middle of a three-day weekend. I am taking a breather from some serious lawn mowing…the result of my riding mower (a/k/a the Lawn Creature) being in the hospital, thus forcing me to mow a large, sloping lawn armed with a push mower and a pair of 58-year-old legs. If this sounds like a recipe for disaster, it most assuredly is not. The grass, if very long thanks to last week’s rains, is quite dry thanks to last night’s near-frosty temperatures, which also makes for a very pleasantly cool morning. Throw in an absolutely clear sky and a glorious breeze – which might have proven a bit chilly were it not for me getting my exercise – and add my iPod shuffle piping through my headphones, and it just doesn’t get much better. I may be on this for the better part of the day, but it will be time well spent.

One of the songs that popped up on my shuffle this morning was this lost gem from Redbone dating back to the early 1970’s. Actually, “Message From A Drum” is the type of song that goes well on a Sunday morning, and doubly so on a perfect, peaceful morning such as this.  Enjoy – both the song and your day…
